General: Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is a disease in which cancer cells develop in the prostate and begin to multiply out of control. These cells may metastasize (spread) from th e prostate to other parts of the body, especially the lymph nodes and bones. Prostate cancer generally causes difficulty urinating, erectile dysfunction, pain, and various other symptoms.
Prostate cancer is most common in the United States, with Asian men showing the fewest cases, and black men showing the most common cases. Prostate cancer generally develops in men over fifty, and is the second most common type of cancer in men living in the United States, behind lung cancer. It is notable that many men who develop prostate cancer never show symptoms or receive therapy, eventually dying of other unrelated causes.
